Over 250 leading ambassadors from the Asian Business community gathered in London for KPMG’s 12th annual Asian Festival Dinner on 3 November ahead of Mr Modi visit to UK to celebrate the festivals of Eid and Diwali.
The event, organised by Nina Amin, Partner and Head of Asian Markets at KPMG, who has been awarded an MBE for her services to the Asian Business Community, and held at the Jumeirah Carlton Hotel in London, brought together some of the most successful Asian business people from the Capital including Bassim Haider, who has built a telecommunication empire in Africa and the Right Honourable Priti Patel, MP for Witham and UK India Diaspora Champion.
During her speech Priti Patel thanked guests for the huge turnout of voters from the Asian business community during the elections and expressed how proud the Government were to be welcoming Prime Minister Modi to the UK next week. She emphasised how the visit would help to develop further the strong partnership that the UK has with India built on mutual trust and shared aspirations for the future, particularly in David Cameron and Mr Modi’s passion to help provide young people with skills, apprenticeships and improving opportunities for work.
Addressing guests on the night, Nina Amin and Simon Collins, UK Chairman, emphasised how important the Asian Business Community was to the UK economy and thanked guests for their continued support of KPMG. Nina entertained guests with a review of the extraordinary political and social events that have taken place in the UK over the last year whilst Mr Collins led a tribute to Lord Gulam Noon, a great friend to the firm who sadly passed away last month.
Commenting on the event, Nina Amin said:
“At KPMG we are delighted with how this event has evolved over the years to become an important event on the Asian business calendar.
“Asian businesses are such a vital part of the economy providing jobs to thousands of people across the UK, and as a firm we feel it is important to celebrate their successes with them. It is a privilege to work with such an impressive list of Asian businesses that continue to support us each year and to share insights with such innovative and forward thinking enterprises and the ambitions they have now that the UK economy is gaining strength.”
